I don't know if anyone heard the sad news. Fred Garofalo passed away last night.
He was a ambassador to the sport of fishing and conservation.
I will certainly miss his weekly broadcasts.

I was very saddened to hear this news, Fred was always a pleasant guy to talk to at all the shows. To me he was a real class act. Does anyone know how old Fred was?

That's a great loss to all of us. I never met him, but he was a friend of a friend, and that's good enough for me. RIP Fred G.

Fred was 69. He died of heart-related COVID complications from what I’ve heard.

I learned most of what I know about surfcasting by reading Beach Talk and the many articles Fred wrote for the Fishman. The great life lesson Fred taught me was what he called Night Before. That is to say, have everything prepared the night before the outing, then in the morning just pick up your bags and go. To this day I think Night Before fishing, Night Before birdwatching, or for that matter Night Before nursing (my work.) The only bad thing I ever heard said about Fred was in an article written by him in which he acknowledged criticism of his being too partial to Montauk, a fault of mine too. A terrible loss.
