Description

HABs can produce toxins, some do not. Exposure to any HABs can cause health effects in people and animals when water with blooms is touched, swallowed, or when airborne droplets are inhaled. Exposure to high levels of HABs and their toxins can cause diarrhea, nausea or vomiting; skin, eye or throat irritation; and allergic reactions or breathing difficulties.

I was surprised to find that there are a lot of these in New York. According to the chart, it's from Montauk, including a bad case in Fort Pond, to Lake Champlain to Niagara Falls.

For more information please visit this chart. It is pretty eye-opening to think all of these bodies of water are toxic.
