I'm down in FL for a few days so I'm not going to splash the boat. I have had a lot of luck in the lake behind my place . . . Until now!
All I want to do is fish!

So I went back at it and sure enough I hooked up on a nice fish. I tried hard but the gator swiped him right off the hook. Then he swims ashore and eats 1/2 and leaves the rest. He's followed me around and the returned and ate the rest of the bass. My fishing was over after that as no matter where I launched my Heddon he would hear it and go to it. I was amazed at how well they hear. I'm going to have to forget about fishing in the yard for a while.
Hopefully the fluke will be hitting when I get back.

So far, mine have ended well, with the seals getting the bass and me getting my plug back...

one of those alligator gar fish ?Nope. That is a 6 foot alligator. I've caught a few gar and they are mean. There's a lot of them here. The wildlife is crazy here. I've seen deer Panthers bear alligators, and all kinds of crazy bird life. They even have frogs here that can kill a small dog.

Hopefully the weather man - can I say that ? - weather predicting person, is wrong. The good news is they're in!How about using the non-gender, and more accurate term of Charlatan?
I know this comment is out of place, mea culpa, but my frustration with wind forecasts is very high and am starting to understand why many of us get frustrated. I've started to use zyGrib which accesses the same weather data as all the Charlatans do, and it's predicting 20 kt SW winds here to day. Just now, the Charlatan at the local station considers 20 kt as a a light breeze, SHEESH!!

I have gotten to the point that I just plan on fishing from the yak from 7ish until 10 something. After that the "light" southerly breezes of 20 or so simply aid my return paddle to the the boat ramp. Did so today after getting skunked although with dead low in the back bay I sort of expected that. I have my radar, windy, accuweather and the weather channel on my phone and on my PC and it just seems to me they all underestimate wind speed.

This gator managed to grab like a 3 pounder off my hook. It turns eats 1/2 and throws the other 1/2 in my direction on land. It's in between us. So for the hell of it I walked towards the 1/2 fish and he came out of water and stood over it. He's only about 6 feet but it's still scary. I decide to walk down the lake and the thing is following me. I then came back and the gator took off to make sure I didn't get his bass. The real scary moment came when I went onto a dock, took one cast, where I've taken some nice fish. First cast hook up, about a 2 pounder. As I pull it off of the water a monster shot put like a submarine. It had to be 12 for long. Scared the shit out of me. I should have splashed the Tracker. It's scary around here from land.

apologies for where this was posted. if I knew how or could I would move both to "Windy" thread.
when I had my first boat in the late 70s to mid 80s. I would be becalmed and stationary at any slack tide. Not anymore !

My parents used to live in a gated community in Weeki Wachee Florida (Glenn Lakes) that was dotted with small lakes. My mother would occasionally find him out back casting a hot dog tied onto his fishing line to an alligator that occupied one of the lakes near the house.
