I fished the last of the incoming off of Beach and headed east in search o fluke. I found a few small ones near Long Beach but very little bait. The best bite, and it was not great, was in 9-14 feet of water off the big rock at Short Beach. I did see some bait there so I gave it a shot and that's when we found the keeper and a short flurry of shorts.
The good news is that the bass fishing has been on par with years ago. I know many of you will think it's because of the new regs, but trust me it will take years to see if the slot is a success. The back of Stonybrook and Porpoise Channel had some nice fish in them for the past few days. This bodes well as I compare it to my logs. We had a bunch, one over the slot and a bunch of shorts.

George,
As much as I love fluke fishing for a nice fillet once and a while maybe I should have some fun with the bass as noted. I don't eat the bass but like catching them. Thanks for the heads up. See you out there.

George,I'd much rather eat a fluke than a striped bass. But my favorite inshore fish to eat are fluke!
