Launched out of Captree this morning to do a last ditch try for stripers. Ran east out of FI in drizzle and patchy fog to try some trolling and jigging if the situation warranted.
Fishfinder marked quite a few possibilities, but either it was wrong or it was right and nothing was hungry. We trolled just off the beach from the inlet out past the water tower and back before giving up.
Saw some bird action at the rip just inside the inlet on a heavy outgoing tide so we stopped to try some casting, but the area seemed devoid of predators.
Except for that seal. Once he popped up we figured the old adage "If a seal's around, the fish leave town" was probably true. So we headed back to the ramp.
DEC was there to greet us, but it was just casual conversation. So he didn't catch anything he might have been fishing for either.
