but almost no one got their hands on a fish. Outgoing tide this afternoon, wind at my back allowing me to throw a light 9' Lami and 1 1/2 oz lures but to no avail. Some weed, but not a warstopper and no sweep. Breakers were under 2' A lot of diving ducks out front but just floating and swimming to and fro.Granted it was a beautiful Saturday, but it was a surfcaster every 25 or 30 yards for much of the beach. Stayed until almost sunset. One guy told me that he had one schoolie, another a shad, and a third guy told me he tried another town's beach just W. of FI and it was just as quiet there in terms of the bass cooperating.

Nothing wrong with honing your casting skills. It's a spring habit of mine when I can't stand not fishing in mid-May knowing damn well I won't be practicing reeling in a bass until sometime after May 24...

That's what I'm seeing. A steady pick of shad with a occasional
schooly. The lure of choice is a diamond jig with a tube.
Cast I'm favoring is the over head thump.
faceing target, lure behind head, come forward with the punch
hand on fore grip and pull with but hand to direct cast.

Maybe because of my aging shoulders but I have to go 3/4. Will have to switch back to the diamond and tube from the Kastmaster that I prefer dressed with my own bucktail hair and some Krystal Flash. and yes, some shad with a rare schoolie is about it for the last several days in my neck of the woods (SE Nassau). I didn't even get that yesterday.

Spoke to a friend of mine. Lots of very small bass on teaser jig combo on beaches further east, west of moriches.

Well, if you are only interested in cows! I'll be out with a small rod over the next week or so a catch a few!

In the cold weather they start to slow considerably.
It's a chunk and as the blues disappear you can
chunk two rods. The birds (sea robins) moved out
and you'll notice the smooth doggies change to the
spiny dogs. You just found cooler water. Work it hard.
Sometimes it'll take multiple outings during different
conditions until you come across large.
