New for 2020 PENN Low Profile Reels -Updated w/Pix

As I reported a couple of weeks ago, here:

"PENN is now in the low profile category with 2 great reels that offer the same durability, dependability, and resilience of our existing battle proven products."

I understand these are built in Korea by Doyo, the same OEM-builder that produces the Abu Revo Beast reels - which are pretty darn good reels, indeed. Also, my Revo Gen4 Winch has been bullet-proof this season - a really good piece of Korean-built engineering. No reason to doubt that these new Penns will be any different.

I believe that the same parent company now owns Abu, Lew's, and Penn - so its no big surprise that there's a familial resemblance between the three company's bait casting reels.

***Thank You!***

Am I sold on it? You better believe I am and I'll tell you why. It was explained to me.
Penn isn't showing consistency in there production and for this reason it makes
decision making when purchasing difficult.

In my opinion the Penn 535 gs was the best reel penn ever made. It was excellent for ait and beight
surf fishing. For boat fishing. It was so versatile that you were able to blackfish with it comfortably,
drift for striped bass and week fish. Anchored up in a chum slick and you were able to fly line baits
off the back of the boat and in seconds you were in the strike zone. The reel held enough 25 pound
Ande pink to crush baits at distance off of a high pier. There weren't any regulations on bluefish
when I was a teenager. Does this reel have that type of versatility? It's a good possibility that it does.
I'm also not sure if I want a mag knob on my boating outfit. Most definitely you can get one with
out the knob. Now how will it perform in the suds with conditions and elements not in your favor?
TIGHT LINES! ;)

I know what the Daiwa is capable of without the knobby.

Ummm, what does any of that have to do with Penn’s new small low profile bait casting reels?

I was using this one low profile reel and I kept getting birds nests.
This one time I had to cut the line and re-tie. After I was done I found
out that I missed the hole to the level wind. That's when I got all
pissy and said. The hell with it. Let's go home.

This reel was picking up vibrations. I found out where it was
coming from. So I decided to cut a tiny piece of looseleaf paper
and insert it around the screw hole as a shim. It worked and I was
so happy. About 2 week later it happened again and I noticed
that it needed to be replaced. Now a week went by and it happened
again. But this time I found out the shim is intact. It ended up
that a different screw needed shimming. It's a month now and the
reel is performing like new.

Chunkster - I'm a man of much patience, but please do not hijack any more threads with off-topic material. If you wish to beef about a reel manufacturer (which your posts above are so out there that I can't even be sure that's your intention), please put your points in the Reel Repair Board. This thread is about Penn's newest low-profile reels and that's where it will remain.

Stopped by Trophy Tackle today and they had stock of both of these reels. Looked at the 2000 and 3000 size in both. Very nice looking and feeling reels had a solid and smooth feel. Check then out if you are in the market for a low profile.
