It didn't weigh 88 lbs. It was caught in Virginia and I think was a state record ...... the mid-fifties I think. Definitely a nice fish !

I think that photo has been shown a zillion times, most of which involved false text. BTW, look at his one hand in relation to his face size. If that was a true representation, when he does a face palm, his fingers would meet behind his head...

if the fish weighed 88 pounds it's highly unlikely that he could hold with his arms out stretched - even at 50 #'s that would be very difficult
