I can't understand why these companies insist on doing these things that are continuously forcing Congress to act.
These issues directly affect my business and it has put a strain on smaller tech companies like myself. Honestly, a month doesn't go by where someone is trying to sue me for something someone else did. I'm going through a Copywrite infringement issue on another site I own, over a photo of hot dogs posted by a user. The sad part is you can't ignore it so you're forced to hire counsel.

I just got a follow-up today:
Dear Mr. Scocca
I am following up again about the claim of copyright infringement involving a copyrighted image owned by Adlife Marketing & Communications Co. Inc. Thank you for removing the image from your website. However, stopping the use of the image does not eliminate the liability for the prior unauthorized use.
It then goes on to offer my options . . .
They also attached the photo in question. You know where they can put them ๐

You'd think they'd be happy with the free advertising because the company name is on it.
I can't imagine them having a legal dept that scours the Internet looking for their hot dog pictures, must be a free lance gadfly attorney.
Taking a chance by putting it up again??

I get one of these weekly. It's a new form of Ambulance chasing. They tag the picture and make it readily available on the web, and then they sit back and wait. The through AL they find out who's site it's posted on and then they sue. We do have a way to insure ourselves now from these thieves, but's it just adds more to the expenses.
In the beginning, they would ask you to take it down or link back to their site. Now they want your site!

As a photog I can see both sides of this issue. At some point Congress is going to have to redefine copyright law to take the internet into account. I waned George about these copyright/pictures issues in the early days of Nor'east and things have gotten much worse since then.
