City Attorney Charlie McQuair said at a precouncil meeting Tuesday that he’s seen an increase in summonses in Glen Cove City Court for people trespassing on city beaches and going out on the jetty. McQuair said it’s a safety hazard and cited recent incidents where fishermen have ventured onto the rocks and have needed to be rescued.

“I’m sure some of you are aware that we’ve had emergency responses with regard to the jetty where people have gone out, fished and then they look back at high tide and there’s no jetty,” McQuair said. “So it’s just a matter of time until we really have an accident where somebody’s going to be hurt.”

The council will vote on the resolution at its next meeting, Tuesday at City Hall

I call BS on this. They claim it’s a matter of safety, but it’s really a way of restricting access to all anglers. By doing this they can eliminate all fishing there and keep us smelly anglers off of their beaches.

They will settle on selling a permit to increase revenue with safety rules attached to decrease liability.

I'm thinking someone needs to speak up for anglers here. We've seen this before on many North Shore access areas. We need more access, not less.
