I just returned from my good friends over at Trophy Tackle to pick up a few last minute must-haves, and now I'm ready for that 10-pounder!

I target fluke regularly between Pt Jeff to Oysterbay, but most of my time is outside the Nissequogue from Cranes to the Stacks.

I'll let you know how I do.

As a reminder, below are the fluke regulations as per the NYSDEC website.

May 4 - Sept 30

Summer flounder may not have heads or tails removed or be otherwise cleaned, cut, filleted, or skinned until brought to shore, with the following exception: the white side fillet or white skin only of a legal size fluke may be removed to use as bait. The carcass of the fluke with dark side completely intact must be retained for inspection of size limit and counts against the possession limit.

This is a live report. I’ve fished from Cranes Neck to Sunken Meadow without even a sea robin. I haven’t seen any sign of bait anywhere. I guess. 47 is a bit too cold. Although I’ve had them at those temps before.

I’m headed west for a while. It is absolutely gorgeous and there’s not a boat to be see. Anywhere. 5208

There wasn't much bait to be found. I managed 3 shorts near crab meadow and a few Robbins. Easter temps hovered between 48-49. Did see one bunker flying out of water a few times. I threw a few swimmers at it but it was gone as fast as it showed. Then I had a seal pop up for like 20-seconds and never saw it again. I saw an Eagle and a few osprey. It was great just too get out and run it.

I posted in the wrong spot. We went out Monday. We caught the last of the incoming. My friend had a hit and lost it. Then reeled up a 17 inch fluke. I got a hit right after that and missed it. Then reeled up a 17 inch fluke. My friend then caught one sea robin. That was it. Wind against tide. I tried notching it into gear and we even tried casting.

Nada. Oh well. I was fun to be out with a close friend. Weather permitting, I may try again Friday.

Was out yesterday with 26 guys fishing. Around a dozen shorts, 20 searobins, and 1 keeper at 4lbs. Fished down to the west. Stiff breeze coming off the shore damn near all day turned out nice when we were returning to shore.

I fished the last of the incoming and a few ours of the outgoing bouncing from Crab Meadow inside Cranes. 3 shorts with porgies and a few ribbons. I was marking bait but no fish to speak of yet.

I caught the ebb today and had great action right outside the Nissey. I was losing hope when suddenly I get a 25-26-inch follower. I dropped it back and it took a swipe but missed it. Then I followed that up with my limit in like a 45-minute span of mayhem! Including 2 over 4-pounds. I used a gopro so we'll see if I got any good footage.

Also 3 times out and 3 times I saw a Bald Eagle fly over me towards the back of the Nissequogue.

So much for the GoPro footage. It's mostly the horizon and everything but the fish! I was hoping to see how that first one got in the net. Lets just say there was a tiny bit of luck involved 😏

Late report fished for fluke last Saturday, with no luck. Fished smithtown bay 12 to 30 feet in front of long beach and the bluffs west of long beach. Big Robins and a few porgys, not even short fluke. Bucktails with glub. Spoke to someone at the doc that had a few shorts and someone on sunday who had a couple of keeper in 15 feet or so.

hope to give it another shot this week, maybe add a teaser...

We had a few keepers this Saturday. Teasers produced a few keepers and shorts. I noticed over the years if we get a bit of a blow a day or so before I’m out the fish tend to go after the teaser more than the buck tail.

I ran out for 1/2 a tide today and found the fluke much more aggressive A few just over 19-inches and constant action with most of it being fluke . My guest had to leave or I would have stayed as they were snapping. I fished off of Sunken Meadow in 15-20 feet of water.
