Hi folks... This may be a dumb question but,
I was just wondering if anyone has ever fishing in that area? If so what did you catch or if it is "off limits" etc...

Obviously you can't get too close because it's a restricted area - you can pass nearby, but if you're stopping there to drift expect to be chased away.

Plenty of big bass in the rips around the island though, as well as by Governor's Island. I only fished there twice in my own boat, mostly because although it's very scenic is a real PITA to fish (tons of big boat traffic throwing all kinds of crazy wake).

I used to work with a guy who launched his kayak from Liberty State Park and fished not too far off with good success, but given how busy that area is I wouldn't try it myself.

I've been on a few of those dinner cruises around the Statue of Liberty and it was like the LIE in rush hour. I'd be afraid to fish it without someone that's experienced there.
