Yesterday’s charter was the annual grandchildren’s trip for my loyal customers John and Ricky which is always a special experience for everyone aboard.

First stop was a favorite Porgy drop, in the bay and despite a slightly slower bite than we have enjoyed in the past there were plenty of nice sized Scup to go around to keep the youngsters smiling. After a 2-hour effort I had cleaned enough of the catch to make for some excellent fish tacos for all aboard as well as family members at home. Cam, the older cousin also managed to nail an 18.5” Fluke that had us all thinking we could add that to the dinner plate, but he had to go back per NY regs.

Next, we switched over to drifting to see if we could actually add a keeper Fluke or 2 to the day’s catch. While we did wind up boating 6 more Fluke only one just crossed the line at 19” for an appetizer for someone’s plate! Surprisingly no Weakfish caught this day despite the flurry we had enjoyed on Friday’s tip.

As we all know fishing is a lot more than just numbers in the box at the end of the day. I firmly believe the looks of joy on these kids' faces tells the story better than any words can convey.

Despite the nice big knot on his head the fish only measured at 15". Too bad but the kids were happy with the action and variety of species nonetheless!
