Recently been having radar problems, it will work find for a few hours then I get a No Radar screen, or it will not work at all. Unfortunately my level of expertise consists of disconnecting the cable at both ends, & spraying with CRC Marine Electronics Cleaner. Anyone know an electronics repair guy on the east end, preferably the north fork.IMG_4120.webpIMG_4121.webp

I would be in the same boat. Maybe start with a call to SIMRAD first?

Can't comment on a Simrad unit, but my Garmin was doing that early this rainy spring. My dome is mounted directly on my hard top canopy, with no "above canopy" clearance. Turns out that water was pooling where the cable connected to the dome taking my unit out after about 6 startup sweeps. As soon as things dried out, and since then, I've been good.

For me, the appropriate permanent fix is to get the dome on a mast, which is on the winter checklist if approved by the Minister of Finance & Sociability...

I would call Jeff’s Marine Electronics. I needed help a few times and I was looking for someone. As luck would have it, Captain Jeff Roye was close to me. I called him up and set up and appointment.

Captain Jeff did a great job. He installed my Garmin EchoMap as I requested. Then he hooked it up to the ICOM Radio to the Garmin so the distress button would work as intended, something I failed to do with the 188C.

Captain Jeff then took the time to run through some of the features of the unit. Plus his pricing is very reasonable. If on Long Island, this is someone you may want to consider. He installs and fixes issues.

He can be reached at captainjeff@optonline.net or the contact info on his sign.
