We began by working the ebb tide in the bay looking for Fluke with calm coadditions and a slow drift. Ross scored first with a fat Fluke close to 4# and then followed up a few drifts later with a nice Weakfish about the same size. Several more drifts only produced a couple more shorts so we changed locations and headed a bit east. There Robert found another keeper just over 19” and the crew decked 3 more shorts. Unfortunately, that was all we could muster on the Fluke front today. Moved further west to the Jessups area and spent just under an hour working over some large schools of Weakfish. However, we could only convince 4 more Weaks to bite with one just over the 16” minimum size. Tried one last drift for Weaks in the cove where I had some very steady action this past Saturday but only found one more short Weakfish and a bruiser Bluefish of close to 9# that Robert fought masterfully on the light spinning rod.
Finished the trip with 2 hours in the middle of the flood at the Gut. Wind vs. tide made the drift a bit sloppy and I needed to power the boat into the rip to work the lures properly However, the fish were there and chewing well. We managed at least one Bass on nearly every pass, with Robert putting on a real clinic landing 12 of the 15 Bass that found the deck today. We culled 4 slot fish from the bunch with the last one being wrestled to the boat by our most senior crew member John. Boy, I hope I can still crank them in at the Gut when I reach his age!!
