On Aug. 14, a Deerpark resident entered pleas of not guilty in Deerpark Town Court to charges related to the illegal commercialization of trout. The arraignment followed a months-long investigation stemming from a tip alleging the subject was selling trout by the Neversink River in Orange County. ECOs confirmed the operation by going to the individual's social media page where the subject had posted prices, information about fish preparation, and instructions on where and when to meet up for purchases. Investigators set up an undercover operation and purchased wild trout in vacuum-sealed bags and freshly caught brook trout from the subject. Following the purchases, Officers executed a search warrant at the subject's residence and seized approximately 40 pounds of trout valued at $745. It is illegal to sell trout in New York State, as well as Atlantic salmon, black bass, walleye, muskellunge, and venison.

I've always hoped that being Fatally STUPID would be classified as a crime, and instead of inditing people like this for poaching and illegal sales, they would charged with Fatal Stupidity!!

If stupidity was a crime we would need way more prisons. They would be full.

Geez. That's $18.65 a pound. That's about $15.00 more than Bluefin Tuna this season. And you don't need $5,000 worth of safety gear, a Minimum of $ 25,000 boat $10,000 gear And most importantly you don't have those times you may be taking risks and having your life in danger. Anyone know what the penalty would be ? $4,000 fine ? Anyone know where they caught these ?? ๐Ÿ˜‰

Crap, I'm thinking the MA boys were getting at least $5 a pound for stripers this year since the fillets were selling for $25/lb at the fish markets. Now there's a legal market ripe for picking at a very low capital cost. Many Bay State recs go recremercial to help pay for their boats...
