So the other day I was fluking in an area that had plenty of sharks around. A few boats even hooked up on them. It shouldn't come as a surprise, as this is two or more years consecutive years of it.

It was blisteringly hot and it's tempting to take a dip in the ocean to cool off. This is exactly what one guy did just a few hundred yards from us and other boats that had reported shark sightings.

I ask, Would you take a 5-10 minute swim in those waters?

anybody who has surfed or body surfed the south shore already has. I worked at JBSP from '69 to '76 and there were sightings those years as well.

If you swim in any body of salt water, or Lake Titicaca, you're swimming in waters that have sharks. Never give it a second thought, HOWEVER, I sure wouldn't swim in area close to a seal colony, nor wear a black wet suit.

I don’t swim in saltwater
Unless it’s in a pool
On this boat I’m top predator
In the ocean I’m little more than food
I don’t plan on being food
Swimming is for pools

Would you give it a thought if you knew there were sharks actively feeding on fish in the area?

Zero chance I'm doing that! I've seen many tied-off sharks get attacked by other sharks in my day. I gu7ess that's why you're the General!

I guess Tony ain't such a tough bad ass after all 8-)8-)

Personally, I would not go in either if I saw any sharks in the area or was out fishing away from the immediate coastline
However I swim at ocean beaches often and not afraid to do so.....

Depends on the species of shark and what they were eating? Porbeagles or Threshers eating bunker, no second thought, GWS, bulls, hammerheads dining on anything, then I wouldn't be hoping in the water...

I have done that often through the years whilst offshore. On those hot still days, flat ass calm. Not if i saw or marked sharks. Haven't done that for quite a few years now only because it's to hard to get back in the boat. 🙂

Are we talking Sand Sharks? What type of shark did they hook up on?

@george you could ask would folks swim in the middle of a bluefish blitz? That would be a "HELL NO" from me!!

There are Duskys and Threshers and who knows what else. There is a lot of life there. I haven't seen huge schools of bunker like last year.

Small (4-5’) hammerheads were swimming around the boat on Tues. Very cute - from a safe distance!

George,
I don't even step foot in the beach since JAWS. Scared for life.
