As we have seen in the past, a fish we try to avoid eventually becomes a fish fan favorite. So I figured I'd give one a chance. I saw this great video by my friend . When he was done it actually looked pretty good.
Well, sorry folk's, as much as I wanted to like them, it just isn't my thing. The taste is OK but that stringy texture is not for me. So all of you PIA robbins that I catch, you're safe with me 🙂

Nasty-tasting and poor texture. Leave it to the French to include them in their Bouillabaisse. Fished out everything else over there and now we're told how tasty "gurnards" are. Yeah, hard pass.

Many Ppl think blues are nasty too me I like em
Some don’t like mackerel or herring
Hell I know guys that don’t like striped bass
im no fan of fluke or seabass an opinion that is severely in the minority
it’s a vanilla vs chocolate argument
I’ll eat either but never strawberry
try em some will love em others hate em

I have tried them twice as a filet prepared in the same simple manner I would bake a Fluke or Sea Bass. To my taste, the fish was clean, not oily like a Blue. But, as several others have commented, there is a coarseness to the texture of the meat I do not like. Probably OK as part of a fish stock or fishcake but not something I would do again.
Fortunately we do have many other fine tasting fish swimming in our waters so I leave the Birds alone.

I think this is a better video on how to clean them:
I have eaten them and they are OK. You just have to keep a big one. Would I prefer Black Sea Bass...Yes.
To be fair, you have to blind taste them against Stripers and Porgy. Also, it would be fair to say...
Its all in the preparation.

I have on several occasions, taken groups of rarely go fishing types for porgies. We will keep 1 or 2 robins, cause folks like the idea of keeping what they catch. fillet, egg, seasoned breadcrumbs, fry some onions, fry the fillets, put them all on a big platter. No one could identify the robins. All the fish tasted great.
I have also put them in fish tacos. the rear half of the tale is the perfect size. No complaints. they taste like fish. Are they as good as sea bass or blackfish. Are they as bland and white as fluke. What is?
Are they just fine when folks want to take something home for dinner when say fluke fishing and 19" is a bridge too far? No question.

I won't even try because I'm very particular about the fish I eat anyway.....

I dint really understand
“ that’s the only way lll eat ———— “
mid it’s edible or good one way why not another
I’m not at all saying if you like something in one preparation you must like it in all
simple that if you do like it in one you may like it in another
Why not try it
Soup
Chowder
Bullabase
Putenesca
Livirnese
Capers lemon butter
if it ain’t gonna hurt ya why not try it
