John and his friend Nick had caught a lot of Speckled Sea Trout down south in the past so they preferred to spend the afternoon going for Weaks instead of Porgy. Turned out to be the right call as they Weakfish are still thick in the Peconics, even in during the midday hours. A fair amount of boat traffic and the bright sun did not deter the fish from biting well just east of Jessups. We quickly put 2 keepers in the box, played C&R for a while hoping for a larger fish and John was eventually rewarded with the largest Weakfish of our season so far, a beautiful 7.5# fish. Fought so hard I thought is was a Blue at first. So, ultimately the guys went home with some tasty filet.
