Well gents, to any of you fortunate to have a boat I`m pleased to tell you the porgies have arrived in the Oyster Bay area working their way west. Weakfish have also made an appearance. The surface water temp is up to 52 degrees

You could catch those things on yarn with a rusty paperclip with a piece of chewed up bubblegum on it.

Awesome news, thank you. Any info regarding life in the water is welcome. I was all pumped up with the mild winter we had that everything would kick in early this season, NOT! It seems all winter the temps were higher than average but this Spring seems the temps are all lower than average. Go figure, between that and all the wind and rain I was wondering if anything would bite a line before June.

Looks like we`re in the porgy doldrums already in the sound . For the past 10 days there are only small porgies around in short supply. The party boats have been fishing Center Island and buoy 32a for whatever is left, day and night.I used to say that if it wasn`t for porgies the western sound would be dead. Not now. Sea robins took over as the predominate fish. Fluking is abysmal.. Sea bass is waning before the season opens. Go figure!!. Stripers are around but they`re not my preference.Oh well. Still out there trying.Better days are ahead.
