[***Dogs’ Eyes Have Changed Since Humans Befriended Them***]('https://www.theatlantic.com/science/archive/2019/06/domestication-gave-dogs-two-new-eye-muscles/591868/?utm_source=facebook&utm_campaign=the-atlantic-fb-test-1050-1-&utm_content=edit-promo&utm_medium=social&fbclid=IwAR0qlPlZZWxouEPEE2YHeJOP16JEcYvKqt_7aw37QjtUKDgt2y5jvBdej0I')

Two specialized muscles give them a range of expression that wolves’ eyes lack. *

Dogs, more so than almost any other domesticated species, are desperate for human eye contact. When raised around people, they begin fighting for our attention when they’re as young as four weeks old. It’s hard for most people to resist a petulant flash of puppy-dog eyes—and according to a new study, that pull on the heartstrings might be exactly why dogs can give us those looks at all.

A paper published today in the *Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences*found that dogs’ faces are [structured for complex expression]('https://www.pnas.org/cgi/doi/10.1073/pnas.1820653116') in a way that wolves’ aren’t, thanks to a special pair of muscles framing their eyes. These muscles are responsible for that “adopt me” look that dogs can pull by raising their inner eyebrows. It’s the first biological evidence scientists have found that domesticated dogs might have evolved a specialized ability used expressly to communicate better with humans.

Going to see a litter of Puppies this week, Golden Retrievers...not for us but our good friends.

Will take a few picks, we saw them a few weeks ago and they looked like baked potatoes.
Should be a lot bigger this Sunday.

funny story - it has a dog in it - so I think it's OK here - not my story - passed on by my brother in Connecticut as a true story - had me laughing out loud - your mileage may vary.......................

So I decided to leave work early. I get home only to see my dog is up to no good. My pit bull is laying on the back patio covered in dirt with a rabbit in his mouth?.

The Rabbit's not bloody, just dirty. Now, my neighbor's kids raise these Blue Ribbon WINNER Rabbits?. I instantly knew it was one of their rabbits?‍♀️.

So I took the rabbit away from my dog, I rushed inside, washed all the dirt off it before my neighbors could come home. It was stiff but I heard some ANIMALS play dead when they are AFRAID, I couldn't remember which animals because I was NERVOUS ?.

I took it and placed it back in one of the cages that sits on my neighbors back deck, then I ran back home. NOT 30 minutes later I hear my neighbors screaming?. so I go out and ask them what's wrong? ?

They tell me their rabbit died three days ago and they buried it but now it's back in the cage.?

worried about Max - he's taken to sleeping a lot & lately when I try to rouse him - snarling........................

I know that indicates pain.
I'm hoping there is something the vet can do. Don't want to have to put him down.

getting concerned with Max..........................

Last month or so I've had to coax him into eating. Last week or two - will only eat if I hand feed. Yesterday even that didn't work. He's off his water also. No problem eating dog treats however.

I know he's gotta be in a lot of discomfort what with 3 out 4 legs arthritic - discs in his back are messed up. He's taking a super canine anti-inflammatory to help with the artritis & his back issues as well as at least 1 tramadol a day. When he seems to be uncomfortable I give him a 1/2 at night also.

I know the non-eating has a tendency to signal "a coming to the end". I'm just not ready to put him down. He doesn't appear to be in any real pain. I know they can hide it - but no whimpering or anything like that.
